Fashion upcycling is fun and easy – let us help you get started!
"Tash ran a great workshop for us! All the young people engaged, and left feeling really invigorated and happy."
Splash coordinator, Wiltshire Young Carers
The Swish inspires and skills up kids to get more creative. How? By activating their real-life superpower: sewing! Encouraged to get thrifting, upcycling and making their own clothes, kids feel empowered to help the planet and, crucially, to express themselves. Saving clothes from landfill, they realise there’s no raw material that can’t be transformed – including themselves!
"The Swish partnered with us to put on a Young People’s Sustainable Fashion Show at Salisbury Museum. Tash ran creative, fun-filled workshops for our young designers, making everyone feel included and encouraged. Her energy and dedication ensured everyone went down the catwalk with a big smile on their face!"
Katy England, Fashioning Our World
WE RUN HAPPY, HANDS-ON WORKSHOPS
The Swish specialises in cosy, cheerful ‘sewing bees’ for schools, youth charities and festivals. We share simple sewing skills and upcycling hacks – and encourage everyone to have LOTS of fun. Kids get to stretch their creativity, explore their identify and express themselves. Crafting gives a massive boost to mental wellbeing - and the joy of upcycling is there’s no such thing as wrong (phew!). Everyone works at their own pace, helping each other or quietly crafting away. Whatever they make, they get to wear home!
Recently, we partnered with Girlguiding SWE to launch The Swish Fashion Upcycling Badge. Over a month-long challenge, 10,000 Guides, Rangers and Rainbows got sewing, thrifting and upcycling with The Swish.
We’ve also run workshops for: Wiltshire Young Carers, Naomi House Hospice for Children, Seeds4Success, Winchester Young Carers, Kids in Action, Green Man Festival, Deershed Festival, Chiswick Literary Festival, Salisbury Museum, Dorchester ReThink Fashion Event, Wimbledon Library, St Mary’s School Calne, Bemerton St John School, New Forest School, and South Wilts Grammar.
We always tailor our workshops to fit the age and skills range of those taking part. Flexibility – and fun – are key! Get in touch at hello@theswish.co.uk, if you’d like to know more.
UNFORGETTABLE UPCYCLING PARTIES
Gotta birthday coming up? Let us roll out the red carpet for your favourite young person! Book a Swish Upcycling Party, and we rock up with all the sewing and upcycling kit for your guests to create gorgeous, totally unique outfits. In a feel-good finale, everyone gets to strut their stuff in a cool ‘kitchen catwalk’ show (or enjoy a quick sashaaaay around the garden). You get a buzz from saving the planet AND scoring ‘top parent’ points. Your young person feels like a designer AND a supermodel for the day!
AUTHOR TALKS
Teen author Tash Bell used to be a TV presenter, and loves nothing more than interacting with an audience of RABID teens. (Seriously. She’s presented a live, late-night show for Ch4. Rabid teens are EASY). Tash loves engaging with young people, and her high-energy, interactive talks inspire kids to help the planet, get creative, and pick up a book. (Did we say, ‘high-energy’?!)
"Tash was a brilliant speaker at our ReThink Fashion Show. Her delivery was engaging, dynamic, and interactive."
Emma Scott, event organiser
